The Bexata Story

While "unofficially" doing rescue work for nineteen years, Bexata received notice of official animal sanctuary
501(c)(3) non-profit status on July 28, 2009.

BexAta primarily rescues small livestock (sheep and goats), birds and working livestock guardian dog breeds, Greyhounds, but also the occasional cat, all types of fowl, and whatever else we can manage to support on our small ranch. With each animal that is adopted from BexAta, we provide a wealth of information on care and maintenance so that the experience is a good one for both owner and animal. We try to educate everyone, but realize that people forget things. Therefore, we are available by phone or email at any time to answer any questions and assist in any way possible. No question is a stupid question except the one that isn't asked, so please do not hesitate to call or email. We work hard to provide each animal with a habitat and training suitable to its breed and type and to educate the public as to the needs of each breed and type.

Our goal is to build and maintain a shelter for said animals and prepare them for adoption whenever possible or to allow them to live out the remainder of their lives with proper shelter, food, water and veterinary care, as befits their individual breeds and species, and to provide for the continued use and maintenance of the property as an animal sanctuary. We promote public education and responsible pet ownership advocating spay/neuter and proper breed and specie specific environments. For example, a working livestock guard dog breed is not adopted out to an apartment or a home with a small yard. We educate the public and promote responsible pet ownership by potential adopters and owners by explaining the needs of each breed or species. If we don't have that information immediately at hand, we access it from the internet. However, after all these years, we are pretty well versed in development of various breeds and what they were bred to do. That way we can explain and provide the best match. If we don't have a suitable animal, then we always endorse a visit to another shelter/rescue that may have something more suitable to the family's lifestyle.

Bexata is also focusing on Greyhounds.

Bexata Animal Sanctuary, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded in 2009 as a private animal sanctuary, which has evolved into a private Greyhound rescue. Our purpose is to find homes for young, racing schooled Greyhounds and to educate the public on the suitability and availability of Greyhounds as pets. Our mission is motivated by a thorough understanding of the breed and the environmental characteristics that help the breed excel alongside their human handlers. To that end, we offer public adoption events, an informative website, and one-on-one attention via telephone and e-mail to help new owners of our Greyhounds learn how to transition their new pets into their families. Because of our extensive background, we have a keen understanding of the type of pet owners that would be best suited for ownership of the breed and work hard to make these matches. Bexata works with rescues as far away as California to do its best to ensure each Greyhound without a home can find a permanent place they too can call their own.
